Using this mug for my cuppa, tonight. Delighted that Goodison Park will see out the final year of its life as a top-flight stadium.

In Everton’s title-winning 1938/39 season, the Toffees lost to the Bees in London but won 2-1 at Goodison. Tommy Lawton, seen here trying a spot of croquet, scored twice. For more info, read Broken Dreams: Everton, The War and Goodison’s Lost Generation.

Aside from being Everton’s secretary & a club director for a decade, my great-grandfather, Bill Sawyer, was secretary of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal Co. I recently came across this beauty, presented to him in 1905.

Make it a hat-trick of visits to Everton FC Heritage Society at St Luke's in a week, by calling in tomorrow. You won't regret it. All the usual great stalls plus Steve Dickinson with his new book on sale.

Gary Lambert 🤗💙 Thank you!

Coincidentally, I registered the repeated internal Leitch latticework only recently. The Bullens is rich in detail.

Rob Sawyer's got a great piece on the stand here: efcheritagesociety.com/the-story-of-t…

The final image is amazing. How many people have taken those stairs?

Well now starts me posting some unseen* photos from the game against Notts Forest. Getting invited to shoot the match was a mindblowing experience as sports photography was something I’d never considered before. And it was the hardest way I’ve ever watched a match before. (1/2)

How the Glwladys Sings The Blues fanzine marked the arrival of Joe Royle as Everton manager in 1994. The perceptive article was penned by Charles Mills Sr. - grandfather of James Corbett (James Corbett ), the fanzine’s editor.

Ted Sagar was no stranger to Merseyside derbies in his long & distinguished EFC career. The glovesman was one of the few Toffeemen to serve abroad during WW2. His story is one of those told in Broken Dreams: Everton, The War and Goodison’s Lost Generation.

With it being St George's Day, it's worth flagging up the England Football Online website. It's a superb resource about the England national teams and players.

The Merseyside derby tomorrow. In the 1938/39 season, the Blues beat the Reds at home & away. Stan Bentham (scorer in both) was the ‘engine room’ of the side & a very good EFC coach in the 1950s. He features in Broken Dreams, out now with Toffeeopolis

I often ponder how Tommy Lawton’s career would have developed without a seven-season hiatus. I cover his phenomenal 1938/39 season, & what happened next, in Broken Dreams: Everton, The War and Goodison’s Lost Generation. Out on Toffeeopolis tomorrow:
