A new era has begun..... using LLMs for work is fine, but it would be good to read what came out of it. "Google released the Mangle project, and it has the same name as the mangle.c file in another project, so everything fits together"

We can surely debate which Amiga (the A1000 was cool too), but at the OS level, it was years ahead of the competition (I'd say 9 years ahead Windows, a few years ahead MacOS). The HW was impressive too (stereo sound, 4096 colors, a sane CPU). Did you see youtube.com/watch?v=uR5oW7…?

"Loitering" (as an offense) is such a weird concept that Wikipedia covers it in only 10 languages - one of which is Simple English

Proton's "last one on Sep 6" is a textbook non-denial denial, ignoring the initial comms. For a company whose value prop is trust, this PR spin is well.. (how their CEO even accepted it). Looks the company is 90% marketing, with tech/priv as an afterthought. My 50 CHF/y was for

This is the correct and necessary pushback. The "superhuman AGI" doomsday cult is a fantasy league for programmers! <fine print> Yes, there are serious risks ahead. Just wanted to use this old prediction get‑out‑of‑jail‑free card. Anyway, saved to the local drive, just in case

Reading monitored chain-of-thought is like searching a suspect’s notebook - when the suspect knows. Evidence of plotting = maybe a signal No evidence = nothing Building strategy on that is desperation dressed as AI safety.

My 7yo's bedtime questions have escalated from "why is the sky blue" (happy to explain Rayleigh scattering to anyone:) to the nature of evolution, god, death and monkeys. My wife and I are happy to explore those, but we need a backup. Any good non-religious books or vids?

if i had a nickel for every MIT professor who told me GPT5 made a novel research discovery in the past week, i'd have 2 nickels. which isn't a lot, but it's strange that it happened twice

A personal update... after nearly 20 years at Google, today is my last day! I'm going to be working on independent research for the foreseeable future, then who knows! I've worked with so many talented people, made so many friends and seen incredible research over the years 🫡

The work of Tavis Ormandy has been a strong influence on my personal research program. Lately, our work on automatically finding divergent execution bugs was directly inspired by one of Tavis’ infinite loop vulnerability in openssl’s elliptic curve implementation. Hat tip 🎩

Process debuggers are seriously lacking, even with gdb+ctf plugins. We need an intuitive debugger with full IntelPT record/replay capabilities, and tracking memory state changes. George Hotz 🌑's qira was the right direction. Is anyone building its spiritual successor?
