6 storeys facing 3 and no one panics. In fact this is some of the most expensive real estate in the world. Unless we want cities to stretch endlessly outwards we must allow them to grow upwards gently, even if that means transforming existing neighbourhoods from 2 storeys to 6.

Art Deco is the last style which could fit in to traditional areas, like 1936 Cottesmore Court here. And when it was built it undoubtedly did point the way forward with its modern interiors and conveniences. After the war, good neighbourliness was no longer an aim for architects.

Exhausting yet rewarding day teaching Design Coding for Sustainable Development for the second time this year at Oxford Continuing Education alongside my createstreets colleague Ed. A great bunch of students, both in person and online. Hopefully back again next year!

Prestigious architecture prize winning buildings... demolished after just 29 years. Very 'green' and sustainable indeed! We can do better, starting by building things that are beautiful, out of long-lasting materials
