Talked with some residents today about the Venezuelans living in the their community where the call originated. The people we talked to seemed to really welcome migrants living in building and stressed the migrants living there had not taken over the building. Story coming soon.

It says a lot about how we are the richest country in the world but these residents had to use the attention brought on by far right freaks to point out the problems with their landlord. From the unhoused to the housed to protecting working class homeowners. We can do better.

Now we all know if these numbers were up, I’d be asked if ending cash bail was the cause. But numbers are down after we ended cash bail. The end of the world didn’t happen. Anyway, like I’ve said before American public safety policy is vibes driven not results driven.

I don’t want to jump to conclusions about the shooter’s motives but I do wonder if it’s relevant that the demonization of people suffering homelessness is out of control in much of politics, media, and social media

In Illinois, we had a sheriffs deputy who murdered a woman in her home. Our pretrial system prevented his release due to our strict safety standard that replaced our arbitrary wealth standard. Meanwhile in California:
