With such nice and quiet weather across the region for this holiday weekend, we had a bit of time at 10p last night to discuss the things that really matter…like debating the difference between meteorological & astronomical fall, & of course, which is better: ketchup or mustard!

Sometimes lakes do have an effect on local weather. Today you can see Mille Lacs Lake preventing clouds from developing overhead, with clear skies reaching almost as far south as the northern Twin Cities metro as a result.

After analyzing drone & satellite imagery & consulting experts, we’ve updated the 8/28 tornado info. There is evidence of a continuous path from beginning to end. The event was complicated with many smaller tornadoes/vortices embedded within/rotating around, the main circulation.

The breezy winds from today will spill over into tomorrow, with blustery S/SE winds gusting to 25-35 mph, perhaps a few to 40 mph. Tomorrow looks largely sunny and largely dry as well ahead of a cold front Wednesday which brings rain/a few t-showers and cooler temps. #ndwx #mnwx

A record day for Phoenix. Sky Harbor had a high temperature of 116 degrees. That breaks the previous record for the date of 115 in 2020. Not only that, but it ties for hottest day ever in September (other day is 9/1/1950). And, it is the latest occurrence of 116 degrees. #azwx

A few showers to the north & east mainly overnight into early tomorrow, otherwise we look mainly dry & just cool for one more day on Friday before the 80s gradually return into next week. So, across the tristate, the weekend outlook doesn't look too bad at all! #ndwx #mnwx #sdwx

Here's a viewer's view of tonight's beautiful sunset out over the very calm waters of Lake Blanche, MN. Calm winds, clear skies, and low dew points will make for a bit of a chilly night tonight, with lows in the 40s. We warm up nicely into the 80s by next week though! #ndwx #mnwx

A bit of upper level haze, paired with the thin, high clouds we're seeing, has made for some vibrant sunsets across the Valley this evening. Fortunately, no air quality concerns are expected as the haze looks to stay aloft, just making skies look a bit milky white. #ndwx #mnwx

We've got a quiet night ahead, w/ partly to mostly clear skies & lows cooling into the low 50s. Most spots quickly warm up into the lower 80s Sunday (a bit cooler in lakes country), w/ mainly sunny skies aside from a bit of high clouds & haze. #ndwx #mnwx

The upper level haze we've seen on and off over the past couple days across the Valley will continue into the work week. I break down where that haze is coming from and how it looks to progress over the next few days. #ndwx #mnwx

Though it's overall warm & dry this week, there's a weak system that could bring a stray shower Mon night-Tue & another system Fri-Sat that could bring some showers/t-showers. Both systems will be struggling with limited moisture though, as I explain here.
