Two of the great modern philosophers of coaching joined me for WOW78. What an honour to get to sit with Doug Lemov and Todd Beane for over an hour and challenge notions of how we think about coaching. I hope you enjoy the episode. #whereotherswont podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/whe…

Had a really fun chat with Alex, Adam and Phil about being a disruptive coach, optimising film sessions, and EZ-play ABBA song books. Thanks for having us Phil Llewellyn!

Thanks @ASAN_Conference for having me along today to present some research on feedback in the AFL coaches’ box. Absolutely loving the Gather conference platform - very interactive, very Pokémon!

Penned a few words for my good friend Darren (Codex Analysis) just before Christmas on one of my favourite topics - feedback reception. Well worth checking out the other blog posts on the Codex website!

Feedback analysis is one of the most powerful tools I've used in my work with coaches because it provides objective insight into how they communicate with their athletes. (This approach is inspired by the work of Rob Mason) #feedback #coaching #communication

If anything’s going to bring me out of my Twitter hiatus it’ll be a paper like this! Coach developer colleagues may be particularly interested - explores the use of systematic observation as a coach development tool. Looks to be a cracking read, well done to all involved.

Could practising your coaching make you a better coach? What are the best (and most representative/“game-like”) ways to do this?

“Formal” coach education ain’t all bad, it seems! This 1992 study found positive effects on junior baseball player enjoyment and retention after coaches attended a pre-season workshop on coach-athlete interactions. The best form of player development is coach development!

Mikel Arteta on being part of a group of head coaches from different sports who listen, support, and critique each other. “It’s been incredibly powerful for me because there’s no competition, but they have lived those experiences in a similar way.” Standout work, Michael Calvin💙.
