On public lands, smart #beaver management is fundamentally smart grazing management. After all, beavs can't eat/build without riparian vegetation. Great new paper documenting how grazing restrictions --> plants --> beaver --> stream channel recovery. journals.plos.org/plosone/articl…

From source to sea, beavers are healing our watersheds. Thanks (again) Ben, for exploring this fascinating, undersung aspect of castorid ecology, and the benefits these creatures bring to diverse ecosystems!

My fellow animals: Here's something for those of us who need a periodic reminder that this thing we call life is not a given. Behold... aeon.co/videos/watch-a…

Great story about the return of #beavers to a restored stream in Montana. Appreciate that the biologists here don't view beaver activity as a complication, but the final, necessary step in the restoration process. #LetTheRodentDoTheWork missoulacurrent.com/outdoors/2019/…

Best. Thread. EVER! I'm so thankful for the existence of Voyageurs National Park, Ben's storytelling, and the research of the @TheBeaverDoctor / #VoyageursWolfProject Bring on the Castorocene!

For National Geographic, I visited VoyageursNPS, where biologists are documenting wolves deploying previously unknown hunting strategies — including ambush tactics that hint at learning, culture, and advanced cognition. And, yes, there's a beaver angle. Obviously. nationalgeographic.com/animals/2019/0…

My National Geographic story about the Voyageurs Wolf Project entailed some fun forensic wildlife biology with Tom Gable, a skilled naturalist. Most obvious evidence that wolf has killed beaver: the skull/mandibles. A gruesome addition to any Cabinet of Curiosities! nationalgeographic.com/animals/2019/0…

I'm thankful I had the chance to chat with David Moskowitz for the Audubon Society in support of this awesome new book! audubon.org/news/a-new-stu…
