In the week leading up to Remembrance, we’d like to reflect on those that have served and are no longer with us. Surg Lt Cdr Ahuja died on 3 Dec 14. Formerly an MO at 45 Commando RM, he also completed the AACC and had started his anaesthetics training. We will remember them.

Cpl O’Connor RM and Cpl Day RAMC were fatally injured after coming under small arms fire near the village of Char Kutsa whilst on patrol with 40 Commando Royal Marines en route to conduct low level training with the Afghan Local Police. We will remember them.

Today we remember Marcus Bailey. Born in Barbados, he joined the Royal Navy in 1916 as an AB Chef and served onboard HMS Chester during the Battle of Jutland. He survived and his children, James and Lilian, went on to serve in the Second World War. We will remember them.

Last week we hosted a joyful Diwali celebration at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard We were proud to showcase our collaborative work on South Asian heritage with our community partner Chat Over Chai and Royal Navy Race Diversity Network It is a shared history & a privilege our local community picked our museum

#OnThisDay 60 years ago in 1964 Royal Navy #Sikh officers & ratings were permitted to wear uniform turbans instead of caps and to keep their hair long if they so wished. A cap badge of ribbon to be attached.

Our Chair had the opportunity to sit down and read their copy of the Commando Comic. Thanks Ric CoIe 🇬🇧! Once a Bootneck, Always a Bootneck 🗡️

It was wonderful to share Diwali celebrations and our South Asian Heritage Project on board HMS Warrior last year. She’s a fantastic ship and The National Museum of the Royal Navy do a great job of maintaining her for future generations to appreciate.

Dr Imranali Panjwani, Senior Lecturer in Law at Anglia Ruskin University, was honoured for his work in legal awareness & diversity. He received the award from Commander Robert Jaffier of the Royal Navy , alongside Shailesh Solanki & Kalpesh Solanki. #GG2Awards2025
