A new helm for RNLI Rye Harbour When Luke Bishop came to visit RNLI Rye Harbour on 4 March 2018 little did he know that by 2022 he would have become a helm at that station. On Friday June 8 he passed out as helm and joins the team of five helms at the Harbour. Congratulations.

On Saturday 8 October at 5.04 pm HM Coastguard requested a Rye Harbour launch. A dog was lost at sea by Jury’s Gap. The owners had wisely rung 999 to request help. It is with sadness that we report that the dog had not been located by 6.50 pm when the search was called off.

It is 4 degrees outside but the wind chill is savage. Our dedicated volunteers at RNLI Rye Harbour are out on the river and sea training. Two trips are planned back to back: the second will be much colder. Keeping people safe on the water and Saving Lives at Sea

Nigel James has been raising charity funds for over seventeen years. This month he has walked from Selsey to Rye Harbour, (about 100 miles) collecting donations for the RNLI along the way. “In my book the crews are the real heroes. Every one of them deserves the George Cross.”

On Wednesday June 14 at 1.00 am. our boat was launched at low tide directly into the sea in response to reports of a capsized dinghy/kayak. On arriving at the scene the crew discovered that the floating object was, in fact, a mooring buoy - but always better safe than sorry.

Four shouts in just over 24 hours for RNLI From Sunday mid-afternoon to late Monday evening there were four shouts, and some crew members were involved in all of them. There is dedication and pride in the job done and no moans of “not another one.” They inspiring to all of us.
