When Ashokamitran was in Iowa, he translated Gnanakoothan's Ammavin Poigal for a play. He wrote about the experience in his novel Otran, which has the original poem. Kalyan Raman کلیان راماں translated the book (and the poem) to English. I managed to find Ashokamitran's translation too.
