Here is the preliminary schedule for the 5th Rocky Mountain Muscle Symposium. A great balance of scientific and physical activity sessions to keep the mind sharp!

Keynote speaker 1/4 Samantha Harris is a Professor at the University of Arizona. The goal of research in her lab is to understand the molecular mechanisms of muscle contraction, focusing on how contractile proteins of sarcomeres regulate the force and speed of heart contraction.

Keynote speaker 2/5 Dario Farina is a Full Professor and Chair in Neurorehabilitation Engineering at the Department of Bioengineering of Imperial College London. His research focuses on biomedical signal processing, neurorehabilitation technology, and neural control of movement.

Keynote 3/5 Natalie Holt is an Assistant Professor of Systems Physiology UC Riverside. Their work questions the determinants of performance in specialized muscles across species, and the effects of aging and early-life exercise on muscle structure and performance.

Keynote Speaker 4/5 Sam Walcott is an Associate Professor in Mathematical Sciences WPI. His work uses physical principles at the molecular scale to solve macroscopic problems in biology, using a combination of computer simulations and mathematical analysis.

Keynote Speaker 5/5 Kaat Desloovere is Full Professor KU Leuven. Her current research pathways are strongly focused on the alterations in macroscopic and microscopic muscle structure in patients with neurological and neuromuscular diseases.

Invited Speaker 1/2 Doug Swank is a Full Professor of Biological Sciences Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The expertise of his lab is investigating muscle’s ability to power a wide variety of locomotor tasks and understanding contractile protein mutations that cause muscle and heart diseases.

Invited Speaker 2/2 Venus Joumaa is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology U Calgary. Her research focuses on understanding the role of titin in active force regulation and to potentially use this knowledge for diagnostic and treatment purposes.
