Our paper "Large-scale citizen science reveals predictors of sensorimotor adaptation" is now published in Nature Human Behaviour! Here's a thread on our 5-year journey (2019 - 2024) and findings. 🧵 nature.com/articles/s4156…

This Sunday I'm back at @EurekaMuseum, this time with my own research! ⌨️🕹 Young families can test their tapping and typing skills with #TurboTyping, and I'll be talking about my career as an Experimental Psychology Researcher for Women in Science Day 🤩👩🔬

Very cool to see the TurboTyping arcade machine in the wild! This was once just a dream of ours that Dr Em Williams made a reality!

Check out this preprint from George Gabriel. Multi-day skill learning and generalization of continuous cursor control from a redundant EMG interface mapping. The timing and shape of idioscyncratic muscle contractions are refined from feedback, then reused in different contexts.

Another preprint from a former UO Human Physiology undergraduate (Isaiah Mills) first-author: Failed stopping transiently suppresses the electromyogram in task-irrelevant muscles biorxiv.org/content/10.110… w/ Mitch Fisher MS Corey Wadsley

Where does the motor bias originate? In this new preprint with Jonathan Sanching Tsay @tsay.bsky.social Ryan Morehead Ivry Laboratories, we show motor biases arise from the transformation of eye-centered visual information (where is the target) into hand-centric proprioceptive space during motor planning.

New preprint!!! Tianhe Wang and colleagues dive into movement biases. Check it out!

Question: Does the relevance of visual feedback influence how we subconsciously correct for errors in our movement? Answer: Yes! In our paper in Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, we showed that *implicit* motor adaptation is modulated by the relevance of visual feedback. shorturl.at/jnoGM

In a series of experiments involving over 400 human participants, we found that motor adaptation was reduced by symbolic compared to sensory feedback. tinyurl.com/474w8crk 🧵 Yifei Chen Sabrina Abram Ivry Laboratories

Question: How does #aging impact #motor #learning? Answer: Aging enhances implicit learning, but reduces explicit motor learning. New bioRxiv: tinyurl.com/4nw3snwb Amazing work led by Elizabeth Cisneros! S. Karny, Ivry Laboratories UCBerkeley Psychology CMUPSYCH @cmuneurosci

🚨 I'm joining Rutgers' Neurosurgery (Rutgers RWJMedSchool) and the Brain Health Institute (Rutgers Brain Health Institute) as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor this Fall! 🚨 My lab will use direct-brain recordings to study the neural computations weaving together human decisions, emotions, and memories.
