And here's the plea: Please, never, ever leave a child unattended in water. It doesn't matter how deep. It doesn't matter for how long, if it's "just to get the door" or "just to plug my phone in." You have no idea how quickly things can go wrong.

My second plea is my usual: Learn CPR. It's so easy but can save a life. If you did it years ago and have forgotten, take a refresher. If you're a parent or grandparent or uncle or auntie or your mates have kids, go on a child's first aid course too.
