One of the main political advantages of the Labour right is that - no matter how badly they behave - they can always find a journalist to report how it is 'all very clever politics actually'.

Really enjoyed this piece by Polly Smythe on how the increasing poshness of Britain's creative industries (all of our best actor Oscar nominees in 2022 were privately educated) is inextricably linked to the decline of soaps novaramedia.com/2024/05/31/soa…

Barry Sheerman was MP for 45yrs before standing down at 83, Harriet Harman served 42yrs before standing down at 73. Abbott is neither as old (70) nor as long-serving (37yrs). But I think we all get the message now: there's one rule for white Labour MPs, another for Black & brown.

Isn't it notable how white Conservatives like Christian Wakeford, Natalie Elphicke, Dan Poulter and Mark Logan are all welcome in the Labour Party, while black and brown socialists get drummed out?

'Friction' is what creates democracy: the process of navigating disagreement designed to temper the excesses of any one individual or party. A frictionless democracy is a dictatorship. As ever, scratch a liberal and find an authoritarian.

At launch of @thegreenparty election campaign in Bristol.

Behind Caroline Lucas are the 4 candidates where Greens are most competitive: Carla Denyer Adrian Ramsay Sian Berry & Ellie Chowns

It’s an interesting pitch: Labour will win, vote for us to make them do something.

Like we actually need to drive this into peoples skulls. If the director of “We believe in Israel” becomes a minister of state in the Foreign Office in what world is that a “lesser evil”

IDF dropped 3 hellfire missiles—each equipped with blades designed to shred victims to bits—on an aid convoy. Nothing changed. This is what impunity looks like

How interesting: while here he insists that Labour can safely ignore/antagonise all but median voters, just a couple of weeks ago, Simons told Sky News that the party 'will never ever take [Muslim] votes for granted'.

Must've had one of those famous Starmerite changes of heart!
