Ever wondered if CRP is a good triage test for TB among a symptomatic population in a high transmission setting? Read on below! TLDR: it looks pretty good and is relatively cheap, with POC assays available - so should be the benchmark for newer assays to beat. Time for an RCT!

The Omicron variant is spreading very fast globally. It is already dominant in London, but likely at high frequency in many other places in the world that do not have a viral surveillance infrastructure comparable to that of the UK. 1/ x.com/theosanderson/…

No better way to start 2022 than revel in earlier optimism of being in a new phase of pandemic. Further variants always a likelihood, however, Omicron in SA hopefully a prelude to what to expect moving ahead- death rate only 13% compared to delta wave.

Another, new, update thread on where the NHS is up to, given fast moving situation. Draws on latest performance and covid data and recent intelligence from trust CEOs. Also looks at staff absences, access to tests and NHS work to create extra surge capacity. Happy New Year! 1/25

When people ask what a collapse of the NHS would look like, it's this, it's already here. It's not going to be bricked up hospitals and no one answering 999, it's going to be lowering standards and rationing care. Acknowledging we can no longer help everyone who calls.

1/ The COVID-OUT trial showed that the incidence of long COVID was reduced with a 14 day course of metformin compared to placebo (6.3% v 10.4%). So should we be prescribing metformin to patients with newly diagnosed COVID? Some thoughts...🧵 thelancet.com/journals/lanin…
