My colleague Tim Bale discusses Nigel Farage's potential reasons for not standing in the general election.

I agree that Farage has rightly concluded that Reform cannot win any seats, even with him as a candidate.

'Starmer’s pitch has been to middle England, not North London...

Corbyn takes clear and consistent policy stands which endear him to the left-leaning electorate of Islington North, differentiating him from Starmer’s Labour Party.'

It's fair enough to disagree with the idea of national service, but I'm a bit perplexed why it is 'so obviously...utterly mad', when numerous democracies around the world, including many in Europe, have some form of national service.

Winning as an independent in a British general election is tough. Just four ex-Labour MPs have held their seat after going independent. But, there are good reasons to think Jeremy Corbyn could win Islington North on 4th July.

This was my grandfather's election address in the 1951 election:

'The Tories seek to masquerade before you as reformed sinners. With honeyed phrases and a contradictory confusion of ambiguous promises they seek to bemuse and beguile you'.

I can tell he enjoyed writing it!

Who said it?

'Is it possible to create [an] emancipatory alliance...without, on the one hand, subordinating the demands of the new social movements to the class struggle and without, on the other hand, undermining the importance of the class struggle?'
