Tens years ago I wrote a novel about a downtrodden & suffering #Denver...and people scoffed, saying things weren't that bad. I was involved with #OccupyDenver at the time. I had to self publish it, my dear #Writerscommunity. My first novel. The Shiner. I thought my debut failed.

Eight years ago I wrote a novel about a boy whose mother was convinced he would become a school shooter. She killed him instead. His name was Isaac. People scoffed, saying that there wasn't a need for novels like that, my dear #writerscommunity. I thought my second novel failed.

5 years ago I pushed out a sci-fi about a cult that leads most of humanity into the slaughter houses of the beings harvesting Earth for ore & protein. My alcoholism took a bad turn with it. I self pubbed again. I had gotten a couple M/S requests, my dear #writerscommunity. Sigh.

I get the call from the emergency department. “He’s was near death, but we stabilized him.” They start reciting the story. It’s a well worn script we both know all to well. “Unhoused, Addictions, Lost to follow up” I feel it. That blend of anger & frustration I must control.

He never made it to the boarding call. His flight from DEN swooped down to LAX all fine and well for an hour layover. Next stop, Honolulu. But he didn't make that connection. His family waited in arrivals watching the carousel. They got his luggage...and that was all. #vss365

Reached this really new fun depression level where I drink dark red ales and eat cured meat (a gift from my mom) and (cheddar) cheese in the dark with a single candle at 2am like a well-cared for serf peasant. Bread would complete this cycle, but I don't wanna ask for too much.
