Sunday night, June 8th 2025 will see the release of a "long lost" footy discovery. A holy grail that people have been searching for, for decades.

This is the great Stan Williams, who also carried his Super 8 camera to matches and training in 1970s and 1980s, and alot of that footage is up on my channel. He is a gem.

Unseen for 61 years ! We have found the only surviving TV broadcast of the 1964 Grand Final. Long thought lost, it shows Ch9's 3rd + 4th qtr telecast. You can now watch it for the first time since Sept 19 1964. youtu.be/ofkt7lhZpsw

Backstory to this moment. We've been searching for a decade. Found in a Perth garage. I had to pay a bit of $$ to get it digitised and once I negotiated clearance rights from NFSA, AFL, + Ch9 we were good to go. Only possible thanks to Simon Smith, Tony Jones, Patrick Keane.

The beautiful synchronicity of the 1964 Grand Final footage discovery tonight, is in exactly how much of the telecast was found . 64 mins.

To put it into perspective. Ch7, Ch10 and ABCs TV broadcasts of the 1964 GF are not known to have survived. (ABC has, apparently, the final few moments in TV audio only, no pictures) So, Ch9's broadcast is the only surviving. And we can now see it, as they showed it that night

The NFSA's backstory of the 1964 Grand Final television discovery is now up online. Gives greater details into how it came together and what it shows. A must read. nfsa.gov.au/latest/1964-vf…
