My boys liked watching Fantastic Mr Fox on Blu Ray and the idea of an actual disc needed to watch something. Decided to start building their own little wing of my collection so they could find some new stuff and revisit classics. The pile has begun

Unpopular opinion: I'm not really into LotR but they are incredible films. City of God is a gut-wrenching dive into the favellas, however, from its ultra-tough opening sequence to its personal growth. It gets the nod here.

The Revisionist's Almanac 🎥🎞️🍿 I can’t think of a film worse equipped for a film editing award than Return of the King- they forgot to edit out 45 minutes of longing looks and glances and left in all of the extra endings

The Revisionist's Almanac 🎥🎞️🍿 I adore the LOTR trilogy, but other than that rousing, uncommonly (for a fantasy blockbuster) emotional final 30 minutes, I have to admit I was tired of that world by the time I got to ROTK. CITY OF GOD is incredible... like a Brazilian GOODFELLAS with 100x more energy.

Andrew from The Revisionist's Almanac 🎥🎞️🍿 had this to say about 2001 (in the top ten of his list submitted): "The first time I sat down with this film, I was well aware of its place in the world of cinema. And yet sometimes you see a piece of art, in any form, and can..." 1/2

It says a llllllllllllot about Orson and THE MAGNIFICENT AMBERSONS that even in its studio-truncated form, it holds up better that 90% of all films where the director had complete creative control.

Jacques Tati’s Playtime is not only one of the most whimsical and visually brilliant films you’ll ever see, but it’s also quite a biting commentary on society, consumerism and modernism. I really hope more people check this one out with this release!

You might think Sam Davis is a madman for the concept he had for The Singers - and yet the team around him was fully in support of the vision he had. And it sure paid off! The Singers is a 5⭐️ short film masterpiece that’s been picking up awards left and right.
