#otd 1630 Physician James Chambers reports on baby Prince Charles, who 'thrives well' & sleeps a lot. This baby is so serene, it's like he can't be bothered to cry. However, Chambers may be lying in saying Charles's complexion changes daily. The queen wants to hear this. #royals

Andrea Zuvich Keen to use this war for his own gains, #CharlesII offered to fight & 'prevail ... or perish' for Holland, but Hyde disobeyed orders to communicate this. When Charles found out, he sat in Hyde's room till a letter was sent. Hyde's tendency to protect & lecture now caused trouble.

Relatively unknown #17th & #18thCentury subjects. However, their lives were as intriguing as many well-known contemporaries. “Her work always combines her high skills in both research and narrative to deliver insight into often delightfully obscure individuals from the past.”

Aachen, Aug 1654 ~80 'gallant men' disgrace themselves on holiday with #CharlesII. He prevents a duel among them. But within 24hrs Colepeper has brawled and Lord Wentworth & Major Boswell have 'quarrell'd and knock’d one another' in a room beside Charles's. #Wine is blamed. #c17
