Revolutionizing #seismology with fiber optic cables - that's what Céline Hadziioannou is working on: "There's tons of exciting information hidden in this data about how the earth's materials change over time" #CLICCS spin_itn uni-hamburg.de/en/newsroom/fo…

Some great capability on display from @iceyefi this morning. The European company is now operating sufficient radar satellites in orbit (14) to run a tightly controlled daily ground-track repeat across target scenes, eg #Fagradalsfjall #volcano. bbc.co.uk/news/science-e… #SAR

Thanks to all the participants and co-organizers of the 3rd Cargèse Corsica school on Earthquake nucleation, triggering & aseismic processes! It was fantastic to meet in person again with old-time colleagues and a new generation of earthquake researchers! earthquakes3.sciencesconf.org

Support the Seismica community journal by becoming a reviewer! We just launched version "1.0" of our reviewer database, hosted at seismica.eu.pythonanywhere.com It only takes 1 minute to sign-up with your ORCID and to indicate your areas of expertise. [1/n]

Happy to see our work in that series of Seismology Section of AGU. A short 4 min video explains the main messages of our recently accepted paper about exploring the variety of signals hidden within seismic data.

Doing some literature diving for the thesis and came across this little gem: "As with life, so with wavelets: correct choices of your mother is essential for success." From Morlet wavelets in quantum mechanics by John Ashmead Mhh...what? 😅

Little update: I recently finished my PhD at ISTerre. I definitely had a great time and I am very grateful for all the amazing people I met here. Soon I spend some time at GFZ within the visiting researcher program of Helmholtz Information & Data Science Academy HIDA. Looking forward to this!

The Future of Life Institute is a problem. Being in same age-group (lower end maybe😃)/cultural background (8-bit programming📼⌨️) as these men, makes me feel uncomfortable and embarrassed for them. Here they (Musk, Hassabis, Tegmark, Bostrom etc.) are in 2017.

WOW WOW WOW this Naomi Klein piece is by far the best take on AI and the AI discourse that I’ve seen—erudite, eye-opening, clarifying, cannot say enough good things about it or recommend it enough!! theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Things that peeve me more than anthropomorphisation of ML models: Using severe and traumatizing mental health disorders as descriptors for the failure modes of neural networks. "Hallucination" is already in bad taste, but "dementia" is extremely demeaning to those affected by it

Thanks Helmholtz AI for bringing together so many scientists from different domains working on AI. Had a great time in Hamburg! #helmholtzaicon
