We want the issues to be fixed and to not be priced out of our homes, but we can't give up our right to speak truthfully and publicly about *new* issues in our homes even if doing so could make the landlords look bad. The landlords' final offer to us required this, in (b). (4/7)

Since the rent strike began in May 2023, we have sought to meet with the landlords as a group to resolve the dispute. The landlords have always refused. Negotiations took place during a settlement conference scheduled by the Landlord and Tenant Board earlier this year. (5/7)

PSP Investments and Starlight control our housing, which is a basic human need. We have to be able to organize and to speak openly and truthfully about new issues that arise at our buildings, to hold our landlords accountable and ensure our homes are well-maintained. (6/7)

We have to be able to organize and to speak openly and truthfully about future conditions at our buildings to ensure we are not pushed out of our community. PSP Investments and Starlight continue to pursue the eviction of over 100 rent striking households at our buildings. (7/7)

Starlight and PSP scuttled the Thorncliffe Park rent strike settlement when at the eleventh hour they insisted tenants sign a non-disparagement clause 👇

Leigh Beadon (@leighbeadon) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Telling that the non-disparagement clause specifically barred "attribution of improper or ulterior motives" They REALLY don't want more people to learn that this fight isn't about normal maintenance issues, it's about their business model of punishing tenants to drive them out

Starlight and PSP Investments wanted to limit tenants’ ability to say true things about issues at their buildings that arise in the future. It says a lot about how they understand their own business model that this was so important to them

Since Starlight and PSP Investments acquired our buildings we have faced frequent day-long, building-wide water shut downs. No water to cook with, bathe, drink, or flush the toilet. Our landlords’ response during the eviction hearing: “Got a bathtub?” thestar.com/news/gta/more-…

From Sunday to Tuesday there were recurring power outages at 71 Thorncliffe Park. Tenants could not cool our apartments during the heat wave. Today, the power is shut down for a previously planned outage. These issues didn’t exist before Starlight and PSP Investments took over.

Homelessness in Toronto has doubled since 2021 and the number of working homeless is up four percent in the same period, according to the city's new survey numbers. Part-time work is now the third most frequently reported source of income among homeless people after OW and ODSP

Some incredible spin from Starlight Investments in this piece… Starlight says it “proactively scheduled and completed essential electrical upgrades” AFTER tenants experienced power outages during the recent heat wave and had similar outages over the past few years
