College requirements may (sometimes) be well intentioned, but they hurt many who already have the skills they need to practice their trade. College-Degree Mandates Are Hurting Workers nationalreview.com/2022/03/colleg…

Happy to see that Maryland removed its college degree requirement for many state jobs. Let's hope other states follow. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/…

College requirements may seem like a good idea, but they keep people who already have the skills they need from doing good work.

DC wants to be the first place in the US to make daycare workers get college degrees. A court just said the law makes sense in part because it will help workers answer nonsensical questions from 2 year-olds. Why do you need to give a 2YO a factually correct answer?

Brandy Davis has an eyelash extension license from Texas. In January, she and her husband moved to Oklahoma, but the state won't let her do the job she's qualified for, unless she spends thousands of dollars on unrelated classes. Today, Institute for Justice sued. ij.org/press-release/…

Regulators who can't keep up with the times often lump new, specialized occupations in with the old. The result is that competent professionals must learn skills they don't need to legally practice their craft.

A beautiful day for Georgia’s mothers and babies at the state’s Supreme Court. It was a privilege to represent lactation consultant Mary Jackson and her nonprofit Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere.

Eight states filed an amicus brief in support of cert in my case challenging DC's college requirement for day-care providers. "[L]etting the nondelegation doctrine lie dormant for too long offends more than just legal theory--it can hurt real people." supremecourt.gov/DocketPDF/22/2…

The Supreme Court of Georgia ruled that the state's lactation consultant licensing law is unconstitutional. A five-year legal battle ends in a tour-de-force victory for my clients, Institute for Justice , Jaimie Cavanaugh, and economic liberty! Read the opinion here: gasupreme.us/wp-content/upl…

Operating a cemetery is a safe, productive, and legitimate way to earn a living. Banning my clients from opening a conservation burial ground on their beautiful, forested property is unconstitutional. Institute for Justice is fighting back on their behalf. youtube.com/watch?v=8RHY4G…

Last year, I won a case at the Georgia Supreme Court that says that government can't protect existing businesses from competition from new ones. Today, I filed a follow-up to that case and cannot wait to vindicate my incredible client's right to set up her business.

Awa Diagne is the embodiment of the American dream, but city officials won't let her compete with other businesses. Check out the video for my latest case: youtube.com/watch?v=iNjdm_…

In August, I sued the City of South Fulton, GA, for denying Awa Diagne a permit to open a braiding shop to protect a nearby salon from competition. The court just ruled that the city violated Awa's right to earn a living under precedent I set last year. ij.org/press-release/…
