I had a small cameo in the Sierra Magazine featuring an article written by Anne Readel. She spoke to UMN researchers and surrounding support to gain info on Minnesota's rise in Bee Lawns. Awesome article for anyone interested!🐝 sierraclub.org/sierra/slidesh…

In honor of #earthday - consider your lawn differently by incorporating bulbs, blooms, and bees… one of the favorite pictures I have ever taken - grape hyacinth and tall fescue producing a spectacular lawn in Fayetteville AR…

Spring beauty is in peak bloom! We see this perennial in low maintenance home lawns. Let it show a few more weeks before you mow. Better yet, once the seed start to turn dark brown, hand collect, brown bag, dry at room temp., then distribute on lawn later this summer.

Replacing grass lawns with flower gardens, white clover fields, or meadows may be beneficial for pollinators and people in some areas, it ignores the documented want and need for lawns in modern society. Learn more on THE TURF ZONE #podcast via @Blubrry > media.blubrry.com/theturfzone/co…

One of our native azaleas, Rhododendron canescens (honeysuckle azalea) is currently putting on a gorgeous display of delicate pink blooms in the woods of northeast MS. Pollinators, like butterflies were loving it! #MSUext

Spring beauty collection is underway! The drying plant material explosively dehisces seed when they’re ripe. Those seed are also all over the floor. Now grad student Nik Minaev will optimize germination protocols and select for improved seed viability. MSU CALS/MAFES MSU Extension

Nik is starting his second season of spring beauty (Claytonia virginica) seeding study in bermuda home lawn. In preliminary trials we had very low germination of commercially available seed. Nik developed a harvest method so that we have a local seed source with acceptable germ.
