Report on findings from an artificial intelligence system that automatically quantifies multiple OCT features at baseline in patients with neovascular age-related #maculardegeneration. ow.ly/1v5M50BDjJR Gabriella Moraes Pearse Keane reena c Siegfried Wagner Tiarnan Keenan
#AI has the potential to bring world class ophthalmic expertise into the community and even the home... Here we review the latest advances in #OCT imaging that may allow this! Supported by Moorfields Eye Charity UK Research and Innovation #UKRIFLF College of Optometrists
Thrilled to announce our first major breakthrough in applying AI to a grand challenge in science. #AlphaFold has been validated as a solution to the ‘protein folding problem’ & we hope it will have a big impact on disease understanding and drug discovery: deepmind.com/alphafold-blog
1. I watched #Seaspiracy on Netflix last night. It’s a brilliant expose of the greatest threat to marine life: fishing. This thread explores why we have so seldom heard the the truth about what’s happening to our oceans. #TellTheTruth Greta Thunberg netflix.com/gb/title/81014…
Paper published today in JAMA Ophthalmology! 🎉 How clinically useful are automatic segmentations of retinal disease from a deep learning model? We find that both qualitative and quantitative approaches are required to find out... mini thread below! jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/…
Am excited to see this out - we think it makes an important contribution to translating AI in ophthalmology! Preprint alert. #AI could aid #clinicaltrials recruitment of people with geographic atrophy (GA), which causes irreversible vision loss and affects 5-10 million globally. The study used anonymised eye data from 300k+ patients at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust 🔗 bit.ly/3OZe0cM
Great work, Dominic Williamson, for leading our project on using AI to enhance clinical trial recruitment in geographic atrophy. The AI system can shortlist patients by looking through their OCTs for unique imaging inclusion criteria like GA lesion area, foveal involvement, etc.
Do you know how we can use #AI to improve eye care? Our keynote with Pearse Keane covers current #ArtificialIntelligence systems in eyecare, what AI developments we can expect in the next few years, and the emerging field of "#oculomics". #OptometryTomorrow #BCLAFocus
New in JAMA Ophthalmology ! In this brief report, we show that a generalist vision-language model (VLM) may have limited capabilities in performing tasks related to the interpretation of OCT scans. Pearse Keane reena c jamanetwork.com/journals/jamao…
Researchers at Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and UCL Institute of Ophthalmology have developed an AI system that can identify patients for Geographic Atrophy (GA) clinical trials faster and more accurately.
