For #TriviaFriday we are looking at Zaneveld et al., 2016. In this study, researchers look into how nutrient pollution and overfishing disrupt corals' microbiomes. nature.com/articles/ncomm…

Starting this week off with a #SpeciesHighlight on the black durgon! The black durgon is a type of triggerfish, which you can tell by the one fin sticking straight up and the other fin sticking straight down. Although it may seem black, this fish is actually a dark blue.

Happy Monday! The #specieshighlight for today is a lionfish! The lionfish is an invasive species in Florida and the Caribbean and is indigenous to the Indo-Pacific. This flamboyant fish has venomous spines that stick out and are used to corner and capture prey.

It's hump day, which means it's #WaterQualityWednesday! And we are talking about seabirds! Seabirds commonly eat trash and microplastics found on the beach and in the water which build up and can kill and injure the birds. bbc.com/news/science-e…

It is #TriviaFriday and we are talking about the difference between skates and rays! Although they look vary similar, some ways to tell them apart are: 1.) Rays typically have a barb on their tail, skates do not 2.) Skates often have thorn-like structures on their back
