The neoliberal university:

At this point LLMs-in-the-classroom apologists should be embarrassed. Students aren't just using this stuff as a "problem solving tool" or whatever BS people spout, they're using it to forget how to talk. Impossible to be pessimistic enough about it tbh.

These are the folks trying to shut down our Astronomy major at KU (and physics majors/departments at every Kansas Regents university that isn't KU/K-State)

This is also the kind of thinking that stifles statewide innovation. Does a specific industry exist in Kansas now? No? Then we shouldn't prepare students for it. By narrowly preparing students for today's landscape, it makes it impossible to be ready for tomorrow's opportunities

Amen and hallelujah. I don't see writing courses as benefitting students if it's about testing what AI "can" do. I believe we should be focused on what humans should or even MUST do. We have no shortage of text in the world. Humans writing must mean something.

Grandmas aren't the solution to the childcare crisis. Some have other plans for their retirement. Some live too far away to care for grandkids. Some have health problems that make caregiving too difficult. Some can't afford to retire. Some families don't have grandmas at all.
