NASA will send S. cerevisiae to the Moon in 2026 to study gravity and radiation impact on DNA repair. LEIA has two sub-modules: BioSensor to grow yeast, and two radiation detectors. The research builds on BioSentinel, currently orbiting the Sun to study DNA repair in yeast.
