Sick tonight so off skates (boo) but got to bench coach at scrimmage (yay). I always forget how much I miss it — SC is the first time in my derby career (save for my rookie year) where I haven’t juggled skating on one team while coaching another, and that void is v. strange.

we are the CURRENT of roller derby. There are at least 5 former juniors on the #1 league in the WFTDA. Junior derby isn't just a half time show to gawk at the children on skates. It's a real sport for real young adults.

How can I rock climb every day and also go to practice and also crosstrain without killing my body... too many hobbies 💀

Learning to jam skate solely so I can make up a routine to this song, the anthem of 2020

Spent two hours trying to learn this, and I now have a new appreciation for both artistic skaters and TikTok dances. 💀

This morning while practicing, I realized that I‘ve now been roller skating for a decade. It’s become one of the mainstay hobbies of my adult life, and led me to accomplish dreams I never even knew were in my heart. I’m so glad I still love it as much as my 22 year old self did.

Sadly, due to an early-aughts hard drive crash, I don’t have many pictures from that first year of skating aside from those comics I drew. The only one I can find is this very 90s photo of my first pair of quad skates on the old Interskate 91 carpet. (It’s very classy.)

Well, I guess what Twitter is telling me is that I should tweet more about roller skating.
