Would lead to lobbying or would lead to outrage at the environmental destruction being proposed? If there is nothing to hide, why hide it Christopher Bishop? newsroom.co.nz/2024/08/12/bis…

rnz.co.nz/national/progr… Lets be 100% clear - this bill does not have environment protections in place. The expert panel can only work within the constraints of the bill.

Minister Bishop is right - the environment and economy can go and should go hand in hand. So why not ensure that the fast-track bill has an environmental purpose as well as an economic one? Why not ensure that environmental considerations are included in the bill?

The version of what’s now the fast track bill released via a Forest and Bird OIA today (sent to Bishop by Shane Jones during coalition talks) actually included “environmental” as a consideration & excluded activities prohibited under the RMA. Bit different to what we have now…

The refusal to disclose scheduled projects until after select committee reports back makes a mockery of parliamentary sovereignty: projects get all the benefit/protection of legislature supremacy but are not subject to concomitant scrutiny/public participation of demo process.

Parliament needs to know what the fast track projects are so it can properly scrutinise proposed legislation. New Zealanders need to know so they can have a say about what is being planned in their communities. rnz.co.nz/news/political… #waronnature

If statutory listing of projects is occur, either: (a) Bill should be sent back to select committee once announced so each can be scrutinised to ensure they are appropriate for fast track referral etc; OR …

(b) no projects listed in the legislation and each subject to ministerial referral (and thus potentially subject to judicial review re whether they meet the threshold and are appropriate to be referred).

NZ voices led to fast-track change this week. But let's be 100% clear - this is still a fast-track to environmental destruction. Unless the purpose of the bill changes & environmental safeguards are in, it won't matter who gives the green light. #waronnature Forest & Bird

Catching my breath after busy day yesterday on fast-track. Digesting the draft fast track "prototype" bill its clear to see a concerted anti-democratic, anti-nature, anti-environment push. Goes beyond fast-track and provides intel on the wider #waronnature.

Go the hoiho! Was lucky enough to see one of these special birds down in the Catlins with the family not that long ago! Really proud of the team at F&B for another super BOTY shining such an important light on our incredible nature!

Minister Shane Jones - minerals should be "subject to robust consenting processes" - let's be clear - fast-track is not a robust consenting process - it removes environmental protections and will allow widespread environmental harm....

Shane Jones says stewardship land is "scrub-land left over from Rogernomics". Minister, have a look at the national panel recommendations for reclassification on the West Coast. Stewardship land is conservation land - govt must look after it for all NZers #waronnature
