The UN is extremely cautious about declaring famine. Places where lots of people are dying of hunger are routinely characterized as “on the brink” of famine for ages. So when they say w/out hesitation that “there is famine, full-blown famine” in Gaza, it means it’s very, very bad

We unequivocally condemn the decision taken by President Shafik, the Board of Trustees, the Chief Operating Officer, and associated administrators on April 30 to summon the New York Police Department to remove student protesters from campus.

historians putting their bodies on the line, putting their careers on the line, showing up for students at all hours of the day, working behind the scenes to protect students from police and hostile admins: where is American Historical Association? THIS is the fight against the profession.

Jeff Sharlet Dartmouth 🌲 Those cops were brutal to me. I promise I did absolutely nothing wrong. I was standing with a line of women faculty in the their 60s to 80s trying to protect our students. I have now been banned from the campus where I have taught for 34 years.

So the supposed dangerous 'outside agitators' requiring this draconian crackdown at Columbia were/was this 63 year old woman prominently trying to keep things as peaceful as possible? Shafik, Adams, NYPD looks completely ridiculous.

One difference between this building at Columbia and the US Capitol is that the Capitol happens to be the seat of Congress, the national legislature of the United States, which was, at the time, certifying the results of an election those who stormed the Capitol wanted to void.

Calling in police enforcement on nonviolent demonstrations of young students on campus is an escalatory, reckless, and dangerous act.

It represents a heinous failure of leadership that puts people’s lives at risk. I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.

Students at Columbia are inspiring in their passion & determination. I'm proud of them & my colleagues there. Democracy Now! is showing protest of 1968. But there was a Black-led student struggle & encampment 2 DIVEST FROM SOUTH AFRICAN Apartheid in 1985 culmination of yrs of work

As always, Shawn Fain concise, direct, real. Few leaders in any area can match him. Glad he's on the worker's side. The Forward March of Labor resumed?

These words for Volkswagen workers who just joined the UAW are so powerful, recalling long histories of racist exclusion and division in the South that are now being challenged.
