This is a thread about my home town of South Bank in Teesside.

I've recorded the remnants of a pub and club scene in a once-thriving working-class town that has been hit more than most by numerous economic blows in the last 50+ years

Back in the day, South Bank had 12 pubs and 7 working-mens' clubs.

There are no pubs left now, and only 2 clubs.

The Junction Hotel, Normanby Road. This was a Whitbread house, the first port of call for Dorman Long steelworkers after finishing 2 till 10. It's a recycling centre now

The Queens Hotel, Normanby Road was just along from the Junction Hotel. It was a Vaux house. I think it's been closed for several decades now

Just behind the Queens Hotel was The Anchor on North Street. It was a John Smith's house. When the Asda supermarket opened next door in 1982 it was re-named Barnacle Bills, but it's been closed for a while
