Heba.   She runs UN Humanitarian’s office in Aleppo. At a time of extreme fear and uncertainty, she led our work with compassion, determination and courage.   Her secret? Firm belief in the humanitarian mission.

The future of Syria will depend on the women of Syria.   Their role in rebuilding their country is vital. Our confidence in potential partnership depends on their leadership of it. Rayan, Alya, Zainab, Jamila, Heba must be heard. Their courage and dignity must be recognised.

I joined key discussions at #EHF2025 on defending humanitarian principles & safeguarding humanitarian space.   The EU🇪🇺 is a beacon & remains a vital partner—its global influence, values & diplomacy are essential to uphold IHL, protect civilians & invest in principled aid.

After many years of suffering and hardship, Syrian people have renewed hope. Humanitarian needs have not disappeared. Some progress has been made, but funding cuts are making it hard. More support is needed to provide essential aid and lay the groundwork for recovery in #Syria.
