Minister Devin Dreeshen asks: What's the plan to make sure the city can increase road capacity for vehicles? In a confined space like downtown #yyc, the answer's either bulldoze buildings or remove sidewalks. That's why creating other options like trains & bike lanes is important

It's very interesting that the Minister tasked with creating passenger rail for Alberta is making it more and more likely that it'll be a failure. All so that people can drive a little bit more in a province that heavily panders to driving. It's not 2014. Danielle Smith #yyc

DYK that despite the population of #yyc growing by over 400000 people between 2015 & 2023, downtown traffic volume has actually gone done? It's obvious the United Conservative Party of Alberta doesn't know that but less traffic is what investing in alternatives like #yycbike lanes & transit is all about

“The United States, with its enormous highways, sprawling suburbs & neglected public transport systems, is one of the most car-dependent countries in the world. But this arrangement of obligatory driving is making many Americans actively unhappy, new research has found.”

Yeah why would we want fast trains like this between major cities when we could spend 100s of billions on one more highway lanes? If we just build one more lane, traffic will vaporize.

Someone has sent me a video about free transit where the proponent mentions how good transit requires a number of things, one of which is free transit. This is funny because people go overseas to Japan, France, Sweden etc. and rave about the transit - where it's never free.

The primary mode for travel in North America is private automobile, which is an order of magnitude more expensive than public transport, but many people are obsessed with the idea that the biggest problem we have is the price of public transport and not the quality of it.

Irony is officially dead in Alberta. Instead of the United Conservative Party of Alberta working to solve the problems they're in charge of, they're spending time & energy policing local decisions like bike lanes & punishing cities that step up to solve the problems the UCP won't calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…

Calgary has long under-utilized its transit stations and regulated them to parking lots. So why, at a time when everybody is saying build housing near transit, we don't appear to be making progress on this? calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…

We agree: Alberta passenger rail, implemented swiftly, is in Canada's national interest and should receive federal support. Join our campaign for reliable public transport all across Canada. cochraneeagle.ca/local-news/bow…

Good column by Cailynn Klingbeil on bike lanes. They're a litmus test of one's ability to separate fact from fiction, and prioritize the public good over naked self interest. Lots of people are failing that test right now. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

"across the country, a concerning pattern is emerging: Provincial governments are using bike lanes as political bait." "But it’s hard to dismiss all this as mere political theatre when people are literally dying." #yyc #yyccc theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…
