It’s so goddamned unfair.

It’s been clear for years that Garrett was convicted with bullshit forensics. While the system dragged, his mom and step-dad died. He couldn’t attend either funeral. He got COVID. Finally, after 30 years, he got all of five months of freedom.

But cruel as this is, those five months mattered. Look at the photos. The man packed years of life into those months. And the people whose relentless work helped free him, most notably fire investigator Stuart Bayne and my wife Liliana Segura, should be immensely proud of that.
