Today we report that an engineered skin bacterium, swabbed gently on the head of a mouse, can unleash a potent immune response against a distant tumor. Y. Erin Chen, MD PhD led the charge w/ help from Djenet Bousbaine, Alessandra Veinbachs, Belkaid Lab. Science Magazine 1/26 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

So pleased to report that our Mount Sinai-Yale long COVID (MY-LC) paper with @putrinolab & others is now published!! Proud of the hard work of all who contributed. We found biological signatures that can distinguish people with vs. without #longCOVID (1/) nature.com/articles/s4158…

#WeekendRead! #TheMoreTheMerrier! Weichhart &co show Cell Metabolism that “macrophages act as commensals that provide metabolic support to promote efficient self-renewal of the colon epithelium” & that boosting polyamines via mTORC protect against colitis dlvr.it/SxCjVx

Why is SLE so predominantly a disease of women? One component is that XIST, a lncRNA involved in X inactivation and thus highly expressed in women, is a potent TLR7 activator. XIST knockdown reduces the TLR7 stimulation of total cellular RNA by quite a bit.

Preventing infection is the best way to avoid diseases like #PAIS. A new study from our team Tianyang Mao, Jooyoung Kim, Mario Peña-Hernández 🦇 et al shows that a generic antibiotic neomycin acts on the host immune system in the👃🏽to trigger antiviral resistance. (1/)🧵

Extremely excited to see our paper out in nature! How does the body respond to SARS-CoV-2, and what happens if you don't get infected after exposure? We unravel the exact timeline of the cellular responses to inoculation with SARS-CoV-2 in humans. (1/4) nature.com/articles/s4158…

A new study led by Mario Peña-Hernández 🦇 in collaboration with the Craig Wilen examines two bat coronaviruses that are the closest relatives of SARS-CoV-2 for their ability to infect, evade immunity and transmit between rodents. Some key takeaway points 🧵 (1/) nature.com/articles/s4156…

Globally, millions of individuals are affected by endometrial / uterine disorders, yet the #endometrium and the role of its #cellular #heterogeneity in these disorders have been hugely understudied compared with other human tissues and diseases.

New paper out nature - why are males more vulnerable to severe infections (ex acute #COVID), while females suffer more from autoimmunity (SLE, MS etc and also #LongCovid)? sex chromosomes or hormones? Here we studied adaptation of human immune systems to gender-affirming
