This week's plays have involved so many horrifically creative stage weapons- a stiletto heel, Bible pages, electric cattle prod, bath tub - and the only lasting impact on my desensitised psyche is that the "stupid deaths" song from Horrible Histories is stuck in my head. Uh oh.

It's true, I'm far from immune to the gory lure of a pristine white set that ends up splattered with crimson independent.co.uk/arts-entertain…

First two star review in forever - really wanted to enjoy this one but bizarrely for a feminist reimagining, it had less insight into gendered violence than the original independent.co.uk/arts-entertain…

Went to a fancy Everyman cinema for Timesplitter and didn't regret it - what a gorgeous, unclassifiable tale of limerance and metamorphosis, lavish and silly as a Kate Bush music video

Oh it's so nice to see Time Out (briefly) back in print - and even nicer to see my lovely wife acting as Paddington's second-in-command to make it happen

This is so awful & part of a culture of making artists shoulder financial risk. Even if they legally can't release the money, Fringe Society should make a stand eg by guaranteeing artists get box office by the end of Sept, and removing venues who don't comply from the programme

My inbox is full of invites to the "premieres" of Christmas adverts, I feel like we need an old school Vice piece where someone gets tanked on mulled wine and scented candle fumes & shambles through them all like a festive Hunter S Thompson
