Super excited to speak (virtually) at the Royal Geog Society's micro-lectures later this month! I will be talking about my relationship with the ocean, and how I got over the fear of water while covering my National Geographic Society and NUS Geography Ph.D. research

New dams built upstream of the Mekong in China: they may generate renewable energy, but with fossil fuel politics — who benefits, and who bears the cost? straitstimes.com/asia/east-asia…

Mangrove planting world records might look good on paper, but often do not work. Fantastic article from James Kairo, Chief Scientist of KMFRI nation.africa/kenya/health/n… Let’s have a world record for % survived, not number planted!

Community Dissemination Seminar with the locals facing the challenge of extreme shoreline loss. We co-learn that we need localized solutions in the Sundarbans, where the community is involved in the decision making process National Geographic Society #sundarban #coastalAdaptations #bangladesh

How can people be protected from cyclones when the dykes on the southwest coast of Bangladesh look like this? We see this picture of weak embankments all along the coast for ages. But those who need to see, they do not see!

I appreciated reading this and having someone spell out the time needed to sit and think. I can't remember the last time. I spent a few days or hours thinking about a research question since my PhD. During my PhD, I thought I was wasting time if I spent too long to think, alas!
