2010- Nadal had just snapped an almost year-long title drought in Monte Carlo the week prior. He'd beat fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the final to win a record-extending 5th Italian Open crown.

2012- Djokovic had defeated Nadal in the Rome final one year prior. A straight-set win over Djokovic in 2012 brought Rafa back up to No. 2 in the world.

2013- This was Nadal's 2nd-best season ever. He won 10 titles, including 2 Majors and 5 Masters 1000's. He'd notch a 20th win over Roger Federer in their 30th career meeting in the Italian Open final.

2021- Rafa's most recent Italian Open title. He beat Djokovic in the final, equaling his record of 36 Masters 1000 titles won. It was also his 88th career title, putting him firmly inside the top 5 title winners of all time.

2007- Nadal dropped just one set all-tournament. The win in the Championship would mark his 77th consecutive win on clay. He'd extend that streak to 81 matches, eventually losing to Federer in Hamburg.
