We are having to do more with less resource, less staff and therefore everyone's workload has increased. There is also more need than ever. There's a danger of the the elastic band being stretched too far that it breaks!

September is always a busy month and lots to do but this year the workload is heavier than ever and feels unsustainable. Is it just me? Hoping things settle soon.

If this is meant to be diagnostic, then the end of year 8 is too late. If this is meant to be summative, then expect a standardised comprehension assessment that will incentivise test rehearsal in interventions at the expense of actually addressing underlying issues. >> >>

This is good. Thank you NAHT. A senior coroner demanded Ofsted, the DfE, and Reading Borough (by extension all LAs) must plan to prevent future deaths. I hope there is still time for the flawed and dangerous new Ofsted arrangements to be scrapped. share.google/0ezs0gaTBkMXeB…

Cracking blog. I'd estimate that for every hour the average primary school pupil spends either reading or being read to, they spend several hours trying to write sentences of their own. And this leaves many pupils lacking the raw material required for capable writing. >>

Also additional resources and training required for schools if this is the case. Why do I feel it won't come with those things!

Dave McPartlin (@dave_mcpartlin) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I must have spoken to well over 100 headteachers across the country recently and they're all saying the same things: Many, many more pupils with complex SEND needs. More challenging behaviour and at a younger age. Too little specialist provision. Frustrated families. Social

The gov says schools can ‘find savings’ but funding’s still below 2010 levels and the UK spends less on education than most advanced nations. Making schools fund pay rises from squeezed budgets isn’t efficiency, it’s neglect.

I’d respect this position more if the government was taking things off schools’ plates. If they don’t want as many assistant heads, then the government need to reduce what schools are responsible for.
