I am very excited to hear from Timothy Shanahan about reading comprehension and reading instruction this morning at Edith Cowan University (ECU) and happy to have a team of teachers from @DaytonPS here to learn with me!

I just LOVE that on Monday, right after the Timothy Shanahan PL, our year 1/2 teacher Emma Tait started to apply ideas she heard to her reading lessons - and the results were amazing! #TeamDayton exemplify being life-long learners every single day… ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Our Pre-primary (Foundation) students at @DaytonPS are absolute rock stars! Their information reports are incredible… Way to go Alana Baltovich - you really have created such a solid foundation on which our PP students can grow.🌻 And how cute are the wombats!

At @DaytonPS our literacy instruction is linked to our knowledge-rich shared reading texts and is highly contextual. Students write about what they read and it is amazing to see the ‘takeaways’ of learning about the Indian festival of Diwali 🪔 for our Pre-primary students. ✨

With a focus on building knowledge via rich shared reading texts, our @DaytonPS Year 1’s are transferring their learning into their writing and doing an absolutely amazing job! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It’s such a joy to serve on the ACEL WA Executive team with these amazing humans (+ a few who were absent). Tonight we had our award evening & the night went so smoothly because everyone pulled together to do what they could to help out. Servant leadership at its best! ⭐️

After Timothy Shanahan’s PL, our @DaytonPS team have been doing a deep dive into reading instruction & reflecting on how we do things. It’s so amazing to see the results as our Pre-primary students share their understanding of the story they read by writing about it!🐅☕️

Our @DaytonPS kindy students are definitely ready for Pre-primary! Today they are making teen numbers with Numicon and are doing a brilliant job… 🤩

Kookaburra + Jacaranda trees = 💜

Pickle + prickles = hard work… It was like she rolled in a prickle bush with her feet and legs covered with 35 prickles today for a new record! She’s like Velcro…

I could watch our teachers teach all day - they are incredible! Yesterday, we had 15 educators from another school visit to see the magic 🪄 happening in our classrooms & it’s always such an honour to walk visitors around to view & discuss our instructional learning ecosystem! ⭐️

So relatable…

Tried socks 🧦 as a solution to avoiding prickles… this lasted only for brief moments and involved much laughter on my behalf (crazy lady laughing loudly in the street) and disconcertion from Pickle!

I’ve been slow to shift my SM journey elsewhere (tried Threads & didn’t like it) but with the mass exodus of educators from here, & wanting to still have a PLN (like #PrimarySTEMChat days) to share things we’re doing at @DaytonPS, with ACEL WA I’ve created a 🦋 account… Join me!
