Working on a menu of #Tier1 supports that teachers can implement to support #comprehension in #msela We'll start with these bookmarks and some explicit teaching of #fixupstrategies. Hope others can use them, too! #literacy #edchat #literacycoach bit.ly/3Hatm9B

“Small group,” intensive, targeted #structuredliteracy intervention expected from untrained Ts to 8-10 kids 3x/cycle made little progress sem 1. We got creative, split groups & paired a trained specialist. 3 weeks in = multi-level gains. 10 is not small group!

Education "influencers" need to be careful w/language & messaging. Some things demonized just need to be tempered. S-centered w/direct instruction, collaboration w/desks in rows, skills w/content knowledge, balanced elements w/structured literacy. Stop making it 1 or the other!

When a S is thought to be exceptional but parents will not agree to eval, what is the right way to meet S's needs? Differentiation, accommodation, modification? Where is the line? Or is there one?

You can’t refute data with opinions. The best way to challenge evidence is with better evidence. Confirmation bias is dismissing inconvenient facts. Critical thinking is questioning your beliefs. The goal of learning is to pursue what's true, not defend your views.

We do NOT lower the bar. Teachers, kids will face any challenge when they know you will be there to support them when it's needed Leaders, staff will face any challenge when they know you will be there to support them when it's needed Keep the bar high. Keep support higher.
