On EJIL: Talk!, a meticulous & sober takedown of some fairly ridiculous arguments about ICC complementarity in Germany's amicus submission in the Palestine arrest warrants proceedings- by Kai Ambos.
This one came out over the weekend: e-elgar.com/shop/gbp/a-res… It was really fun to write it thinking about / speaking to the many incredibly talented PhD students I've been lucky enough to work with. Two graduated yesterday! Diogo Machado and Hui Helen Pang - congratulations!
The written version of my 2024 T.M.C. Asser Lecture ‘Connection in a Divided World: Rethinking “Community” in International Law’ — an elaboration on the oral version delivered in April — is now available for download at no cost here: asser.nl/asserpress/boo… thanks to TMC Asser Instituut

A new essay with Carsten A Schulz takes a long view on US-Latin American relations. Hopefully useful for teaching and introducing the topic! "In the Interstices of Asymmetry: Two Centuries of U.S.-Latin American Relations," open access, in Georgetown Journal of International Affairs (GJIA): muse.jhu.edu/pub/1/article/…
Greatly looking forward to speaking Lauterpacht Centre for International Law about some new work, reading international legal debates about decolonization and the transition to neoliberalism on the basis of contemporaneous Marxist state theory. I echo Alonso: we all know how briliant Dapo Akande is; he is also a tremendously kind person. His candidacy is fantastic news.
Summer musings: ☀️ In this paper, Joao Sallani and I reflect on the many cultural frames embedded in the #ICJ. Those frames include intersectional identities, disciplinary discourses, and everyday practices -- and all compete for dominance at the Court. papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cf…
