A nearly 10 mile walk today brings us to opposite Falmouth docks. In front of the cargo ship and dwarfed by it, is the PS Waverley, the last sea-going passenger-carrying paddle steamer in the world, currently on a tour of west country ports.

Wasn't far away enough to get a decent overall shot, but anyway, Truro Cathedral ringers kindly welcomed us to their practise this evening and we had an enjoyable time on the excellent 12. Nice easy rope circle and all the bells are clear to hear. Very pleasant tower grab!

Our walk today took us along the Coast Path from The Lizard to Kynance and back, hoping to spot a chough, the bird on Cornwall's emblem which is, happily, breeding again here.

Last section of walk back towards the Lizard, in expectation of a cold drink and a sandwich. Very pleased to have spotted two choughs and some bonus stonechat & rock pippits.

To break the monotony of the long drive home, a stop at one of the Cornish NT gardens before we left the county. Trelissick. Even with summer fading, still many flowers and some very old trees. Plus there's a great view down to where the River Fal opens up to become Carrick Roads

A good dose of nostalgia this morning: a quarter at a tower that I haven't rung at for a long time but where I have rung more peals and quarters than anywhere else over the years. Chigwell Row.

Saffron Walden ringers' outing today. A wander along the Central Line. Second tower of the day: St. Matthew, Bethnal Green.

Penultimate tower of the day: Wanstead. No room for more than the eight ringers in the ringing chamber, unless they're very thin or extremely friendly.

Final tower of the day: St. George's Barkingside. An easy-going eight, but much louder than I remember them, probably because I'm getting old.
