After visiting countless abandoned homes, we found 3 really bloody nice ones today and I have to say I’m pretty stoked about that

Also, went to check out that abandoned apartment building in Carlton and there was literally a locksmith there changing the locks - it was almost worth telling him not to bother but man’s gotta eat

Nice little write-up on our Merri-bek council campaign in Brunswick Voice. "Helping renters and providing more social and affordable housing in Brunswick will be key priorities for the Victorian Socialists if any of their candidates are elected to Merri-bek Council next month."

The welfare state was among the main advances won by the socialist movement in the 20th century. Today's neoliberal governments (including Labor) are dismantling it and we're regressing to a situation where those in need are dependent on (often religious) charities to survive.

Updated: The CEPU has voted to disaffiliate from the ACTU and back a summit of blue collar unions within 3 months to set up a rival union bloc to the ACTU. Officials said this was the biggest split in the union movement they had seen in decades.

Affordable housing is such a joke (still). It’s set at “10% below market rent” and here’s an affordable housing unit in Hawthorn. This affordable housing unit is literally the same price a full priced market rental would have cost this time last year. There’s no point in

“There’s a real payback Labor feeling.” CEPU officials predict blue-collar workers will shift their vote at the election from Labor to the Greens, other minor parties & independents given their fury at the way the government pushed through the CFMEU laws. theaustralian.com.au/nation/communi…

To say this is a disgrace would be an understatement. "Private schools where students come from above average levels of socio-educational advantage showed the most growth in being funded above similar public schools." Get the data here: aeufederal.org.au/news-media/med…

Michael Hillier Purplepingers ☭ Couple thoughts from across the ditch: Abolishing poverty might ruin the work of some charities and rob people of the joy they get from helping the poor - is that a reason to keep poverty? Making something the responsibility of the state wouldn’t mean the work would disappear
