My good deed for the day. I can’t bring myself to visit in hospital the man who abused me for so many years, despite the fact he’s in serious trouble with a broken back. So I painted his dog for him - especially to make his wife smile during this hard time

On my flight was talking to a guy next to me & it came up that I run. He starts telling me how I need to train high mileage & pulls up an analysis he’d made of a pro runner’s training on his phone. The pro runner was me. It was my training. Didn’t have the heart to tell him.

So my bravery in painting my abuser’s dog to cheer him up while recovering from a broken back has been met with a gentle and nice thank you. Maybe this is a step toward my finally starting to deal with all my anger.

I’m not on Twitter much these days because, well, life. But I have to share this little victory here because the one who hurt me so badly has died and I don’t want to hurt his grieving family on fb.

I was teased my whole life for having large feet, lots of clown comments etc, from an early age when I went through my growth spurt. For reference I’m nearly 6 foot tall and take a size 11 shoe.

I have worked hard a lot of my adult life to accept that my shoe size is actually in proportion to my height, and that those who tormented me were both cruel and wrong.

I chose to wear 3” heels because I was always told I shouldn’t, I wear bright coloured shoes because I was always told to never draw attention to my feet. Today I broke another ceiling.

For the first time ever I have gone out in a summer dress and sneakers. It’s 33C here today and I have a lot of walking to do. And guess what. No one has recoiled in horror, in fact half the people here are dressed in a similar manner.

“It’s just in fun”, “she knows we’re just teasing”, lighten up”, everything has been said to me by the perpetrators over the years but as an adult I recognise trauma, humiliation and embarrassment and I embrace that poor teenager.

People can be so cruel. I’m grateful for all the beautiful people on Twitter who allow me a safe space to tell you of my tiny but life changing victory. I love you all 🥰
