With 'ADHD: Not Just Hyper' screening tonight at 7.30pm on TVNZ 1, I had a fascinating chat for The Listener's online section with Darrin Bull of ADHD NZ, about how far we've come, and what comes next. (Paywalled, but go on, spend a dollar.) nzherald.co.nz/the-listener/h…

"Local Government Minister Simeon Brown says fixing roads will be prioritised over social housing under new reforms designed to get councils “back to basics”. So the central govt will now basically decide local govt spending. Thought they campaigned on the opposite.

This is my old flatmate from back in the day, who has lived in Britain for many years, responding to our government's intention to remove the wellbeing provisions from the Local Government Act.

The Minister of Finance and the Treasury released its Half Year Economic and Fiscal Update today, and with it – its ‘plan’ for the Budget in 2025 in the Budget Policy Statement. The indicators show very clearly that it’s not working for anyone. A long thread (apologies)

"We will require universities to not take certain positions but also require them to platform people with certain other positions" That, folks, is basically the opposite of free speech. rnz.co.nz/news/political…

At least for the moment national publications are radically understating the contents of Matthew Livelsberger's political minifestos which call for a violent, militia-backed "culling" of Dems from and national rebirth of "masculinity" under the rule of Trump, Musk and Bobby

At least Trump today ruled out using 🇺🇸 military force against 🇨🇦 - but he didn’t rule out using it against 🇩🇰 if higher tariffs wasn’t enough to get it to agree on the 🇬🇱 issue. This is rapidly moving from the absurd to the dangerous. politico.eu/article/donald…

Y’all have no idea the political hoops many of us had to jump through to ensure this project went ahead. Despite SO MUCH LOCAL SUPPORT everyone from schools to businesses to organisations and neighbourhood groups. Submissions in favour but still a big fight. Elections matter!

Strange phenomenon. Cycleways haven’t popped up everywhere. The largest road maintenance increases were under Labour. The biggest cycleway budgets we ever got was from Key/Bridges under National. Walking & cycling under Lab was 4% of the budget now it’s 1%. Including footpaths

Culture of saying no in relation to Eden Park concerts? They applied for 6, council said yes. They applied for 12, council said yes. He would also know this is the legal process until we can do a unitary plan review. Which starts next year. Which follows a statutory process.

Wayne again! Also, Eden Park concerts are a success story so why say they're a symptom of failure? And dogs, buses, and with SailGP also a success, what's the point of AmCup? My first Love this City newsletter for 2025 is online now, nzherald premium nzherald.co.nz/nz/wayne-again…

FACT CHECK: There are no “fraud investigations”, just Musks operatives doing keyword searches through dept databases looking for contracts that sound weird to the 22 year olds doing the searches and labeling them “fraud”.

This is deranged. Health Minister can’t wait for more people to end up in hospital. Imagine being proud to have that on your conscience.

Govt starts but then abandons debate in Parliament on suspending Te Pāti Māori MPs, until June 5. Tactical genius to protect Budget buildup? Or raw nerves after hearing Chris Hipkins' speech accusing it of tinpot dictatorship stuff by taking out opponents' voices?
