30 April 1943 | Eddy Hamel was murdered in a gas chamber in #Auschwitz . Born in #NYC in 1902. As a teenager, he moved to Amsterdam. 1st Jewish player in AFC Ajax. He scored 8 goals in 125 league games. After arrest in Oct 1942, he was deported to Auschwitz with his wife & 2 kids.

The main phase of the deportation of Hungarian Jews to Auschwitz lasted from May 14 to 9 July 1944. In 142 trains some 420,000 people were deported & some 330,000 of them were murdered immediately after arrival selections.
