Wending my way home after a long day, with the sun setting over the Peak District hills and the smell of woodsmoke and autumn in the air. The only sounds were the sheep and my own footsteps, heavy with a quiet tiredness, knowing I'd earned a fire, a good book and a lot of cheese.

This little lane between Hathersage and Eyam is beautiful in every season, but maybe at its very best in Autumn. Those statuesque beech trees form an honour guard along the old stone wall, watching over the years of discarded leaves below.
