Larry Doby was the second Black player to make it to the Major Leagues, arriving in 1947, three months after Jackie Robinson. Kind of like being the second man to walk on the Moon. Jackie is known by virtually every American but Larry Doby was just known as a very good baseball

Today, in 2008, the last baseball game was played in the original Yankee Stadium. It was just a few months after Bobby Murcer had passed away. I wrote this just after he passed. Bobby Murcer wasn't a great player, but, he was a very good player. That used to mean something. He

Choo Choo Coleman became a legend in New York when he joined the 1962 Mets for their first season. He was a 5'9", left handed hitting catcher but playing in the Polo Grounds, with its 258 ft. right field, made him a 'threat'. He had only one full season in his career and parts

Vinegar Bend Mizell, certainly had one of the coolest names in baseball lore. Nicknamed after a town in Alabama, he was actually born across the state line in Mississippi but played much of his sandlot career in and around Vinegar Bend. He didn't have a lengthy career but he did
